In Berlin, the position of honour is at the far left as seen when facing the building. That is where the European flag is displayed, with the federal flag to the right, followed by the Land flag or Land institutions flag. If there are only two flagpoles, no European flag is hoisted. On Europe Day, however, European flags are flown from both flagpoles, if there are only two.

For special events such as the ITB Berlin travel trade show and the International Green Week, limited flag displays may be ordered in accordance with Section 2 of the flag regulations. Then flags are displayed only at the offices of the Berlin Senate members and the district mayors.
